Abstract

In the sport of petanque, there are several aspects that must be considered such as the physical, technical, tactical and mental aspects of athletes to achieve maximum performance. To achieve maximum performance is often faced with various obstacles, one example is which position is appropriate for the athlete's body size. BMI measurements in the sport of petanque may be helpful in determining how someone can be a pointer, shooter, or middle (can point or shoot) namely by measuring body dimensions such as height, weight. These height and weight measurements will later be calculated to obtain a body mass index to determine whether or not a person's body size is ideal, in this case the Physical Education students of Tanjungpura University who actively participate in Petanque achievement training. The method used in this study was quantitative descriptive. Total sampling was used, selecting 20 students from the total population. Data collection involved tests and measurements of height using a stadiometer and weight using a scale. The data obtained were then calculated using a formula to obtain BMI. The research is expected to be useful for petanque coaches and athletes in the Sports Science Department at Tanjungpura University, as well as a reference for lecturers and coaches in designing appropriate training programs. The results showed that of the 20 Physical Education students who are petanque athletes at Tanjungpura University, 17 were obese, while 3 were preobese. The conclusion of this study is that, given the large number of athletes who are obese, a training program is needed to reduce body weight and achieve optimal performance.
