Introduction to Family Medicinal Plants in the Framework of Local Wisdom for Elementary School Students

Abstract

The introduction of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) represents an effort to improve community health by utilizing natural resources available in the surrounding environment. Learning about TOGA not only aims to increase students’ understanding of various types and functions of medicinal plants, but also serves as a means of preserving local wisdom that can be passed on to future generations. This study aims to describe the concept and importance of Family Medicinal Plants within the framework of local wisdom for elementary school students. The research employs a literature review approach that examines various sources related to medicinal plants, local wisdom, and contextual learning in schools. The findings indicate that integrating TOGA education with local cultural practices can enhance students’ learning experiences, foster a sense of community, and strengthen character development through the values of cooperation, responsibility, and respect for cultural heritage. The introduction of TOGA within the context of local wisdom also supports the implementation of character education and environmental education in elementary schools. Consequently, TOGA-based  education offers a strategic alternative to improving students’ literacy, cultural awareness, and ecological understanding.
